Determining a Healthy Crop

The first analysis a grower should consider is that of soil analysis. This is useful before planting to establish lime and fertilizer requirements and can be used after planting to understand the cause of any nutritional problems (confirmed by foliage analysis) and to modify fertilizer applications accordingly.
Plant analysis measures the concentration of nutrients in a plant tissue. The analysis is based on the concept that the nutrient level present is a result of all factors affecting the plant’s growth. The relationship between nutrient content and crop growth is indicated in the graph below.
